Belvedere Complex – this majestic building located within the Meerut Cantonment, was constructed in 1858 as the Royal Horse Artillery Mess, though it became operational around 1897. In 1922, the building was taken over by the Military Accounts Department. In present times the complex serves as the headquarters of the Controller of Defence Accounts (Army) in Meerut. It is believed that the building was once used as a ballroom for dance events. The term "Belvedere" generally refers to "a summer house on an elevated location or an open-roofed gallery on an upper floor, designed to provide scenic view."
