Wheler Club

The majestic Wheler Club is located at Mall Road in Meerut Cantonment and is the oldest club erected by the British in 1863. It's named after Major General Francis Wheler who had conceptualized and supervised its construction. The Club was formed for the recreation of the Army officers and their families in the British garrison and provided a much-needed space for social interactions and sports activities. Equipped with an indoor badminton court, a state-of-the-art gym, a swimming pool, an aesthetically designed bar and card room, and a billiards room, the club has carefully maintained its originality for the last 160 years and preserves its souvenirs including a timepiece presented by the Duke of Connaught in 1864. The club continues to operate by the Indian Army and over a period of time included a few distinguished civilians too as its members.
