Shaheed Chowk

At the famous Shaheed Chowk stands the impressive statue of Chandrashekhar Azad, a great freedom fighter. He was born in 1906 in Bhavra town of Madhya Pradesh and joined Mahatma Gandhi's Non-Cooperation Movement in 1921 while he was just 15. After the movement’s suspension, Chandrashekhar aligned with the revolutionary Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HSRA). Azad took lead in carrying out various anti-British activities, including the famous Kakori train robbery in 1925. He died in a fierce encounter with the police in Alfred Park, Prayagraj, in 1931. His bravery and sacrifice continue to inspire generations of Indians. Adjacent to the Chandrashekhar statue is the bust of another freedom fighter that adds to the pride of this square. Comrade Musaddi Lal was born on 2nd March 1905 in Prahlad Vatika, Meerut. An active worker who participated in many freedom movements from 1931 to 1933. He went to jail twice and also served a sentence of 18 months.
