Khair Nagar Darwaza

Khairnagar Gate, this gate was built by Nawab Khairandesh Khan in around 1690. In comparison to the other eight gates that allowed entry into the city in the olden times, Khairnagar Gate has preserved its history. The beautiful carvings on the ceiling and the nail-shaped door are still intact; perhaps because a police post was built here during the British period. Khairandesh Khan's status was perhaps the greatest among the Nawabs of the Kamboh lineage. He was a mansabdar – a military officer of a high rank in the army of three Mughal emperors; Shahjahan, Aurangzeb and Shah Alam. During the reign of Aurangzeb, Khairandesh Khan had a command of 10,000 horses of the Mughal Army. Today a road named after the Nawab - Khairnagar is known for the wholesale market of medicines.
