Shahi Idgah

This is the famous Shahi Idgah of Meerut which was built by Qutbuddin Aibak 800 years ago in around 1192. The speciality of this Idgah is that carvings or writings were not engraved on the walls, rather every brick here was moulded in the form of letters. And they were joined together with fine workmanship in such a way that the Arabic verses they form can be read from a distance. According to historians, such unique workmanship is not found anywhere else in India but can be seen in the old temples of Hindushahi state which is in Dera Ismail Khan district of Pakistan. This building made of mortar is 166 feet long and 42 feet high. Approximately 32,000 people can offer namaz here.
