Town Hall

The Town Hall of Meerut was built in 1886 during the British period. And it had a library named Lyall Library. It was named after the then Governor General of the United Provinces, Alfred Lyall. After independence, it was renamed Tilak Library after the freedom fighter Lok Manya Tilak. The foundation stone of the town hall was laid by the Duke of Connaught. Located just opposite the famous Ghantaghar, it was an important building of that time in which there were municipal corporation offices and meetings related to the civic management of the city used to be held. Times changed and today Townhall has become a heritage of history. The Municipal Corporation has been transferred from here but some offices are still functioning.
